Our two boys, aged 14 and 12 got a block of lessons with JP this year, complete beginners and both very different abilities. They both said that JP is a brilliant teacher, he was very flexible and brought out the best in both boys. Our eldest is autistic and isn’t sporty, and our youngest is very athletic, so it was a difficult balance to strike. JP is very patient and explains everything so that they could both progress to the best of their abilities. We couldn’t recommend him enough as an instructor and the kids had a brilliant, fun week.

JP is a top-notch instructor. We learned more in three hours than in numerous other lessons. He wa able to explain with great clarity what we were doing right and wrong. Highly recommended!

AIM Snowsports were an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. John-Paul provided separate private lessons to my two boys and my wife, all skiing beginners.
JP was a model of calm, patience, kindness and teaching excellence. He encouraged everybody and focused on one thing at a time, letting them practice and steadily improve without constant instructions or criticism (unlike some other teaching styles). All three steadily grew in confidence and ability under his watchful eye. By the end of the week, they were doing parallel turns and happy to ski red runs.
It is hard to overestimate the impact of a fantastic teacher. You can see why JP also trains other instructors. He has a gift. Thank you, John-Paul!

Could not recommend AIM (and more specifically JP!) enough. As a 26 yo first time skier, I’d had a slightly negative experience with ESF earlier in the week and had totally lost my nerve but JP put me at complete ease and gave so much fantastic advice that I progressed more than I could have hoped for. What started off as a pretty hellish week ended on a real high. Thanks so much!

Brilliant to have and English instructor. JP enabled my beginner 26 year old daughter to parallel ski by the third lesson. He is calm, kind and realistic. No pressure but great results. Why have anyone else?

I booked JP for the only slot left - the afternoon of our last day on holiday! The messaging before the class was great and he was happy to meet at our accommodation. Any tiredness was soon forgotten and my two teens had a super afternoon. He quickly got the measure of them and provided a mix of freestyle challenge and instruction on technique. They had a great day. My only tip is to book JP early!

Big thank you to JP McCarthy from AIM Snowsports for a fun morning of skiing and lesson last week. This was the 2nd year we booked a lesson with JP after we all learned a lot last year. With the good weather we asked if he would take us up to the Aiguille Rouge as it is not easy skiing from the top. JP was more than happy to do. At the same time, during the whole morning, we got lots of good tips to improve our skiing. If you are ever in Les Arcs, and you would like a lesson, individual or as a group, don’t look anywhere else. JP is a very experieince instructor and can help for all levels. Thanks again JP.

I spent 4 days days skiing with JP with a group of 5 friends. It is the second year in a row we have JP as our instructor. He is very patient, very innovative when it comes to customizing his teaching technique to each individual's needs and he is very flexible through-out the duration of the classes on what to focus on and where to go.
Both last year and this year JP has helped me to improve my technique and I can now really enjoy skiing. I am not an easy person when it comes to learning (especially when my husband is in the same group) and despite that JP has helped to feel more in control and overcome my fears.
See you next year JP and thank you for one more amazing ski trip!!

Our children (13 and 9) had a week's lessons with JP and absolutely loved it. They were buzzing at the end of every lesson and really enjoyed every minute. They were absolute beginners at the start of the week and made amazing progress by the end of the last lesson - the kind of progress it took us weeks of ski school to make!
The kids said: "he took us for great hot chocolate, he was very patient and told us interesting things about the mountains. He took us on a lot of exciting runs".
Thanks for a great week JP - we'll be back as soon as we can.

At what age do children have to be to go to ski school. We are taking 4 year old twins and my daughter thought she read somewhere that they have to be 5 years old.

Hi Carol,
It depends on the ski school really. Big ski schools like the ESF and Evolution 2 have their own private teaching areas for small children, known as a jardin enfants. This is the ideal controlled environment for children that age. A better alternative is an indoor ski centre in the UK such as Hemel Snowcentre where they will be taught by a native English speaker which will hopefully add to their enjoyment.
We are a small number of Independant instructors that offer private lessons. There is no age restriction but it is difficult to teach more than one small child on a public slope.
