Yuspha is a fabulous guide and has extensive knowledge about Gambia’s flora and fauna. We had a lovely tour of the monkey park with him and learnt not just about the monkeys but also the termites, birds, butterflies etc. We booked another tour with him to Brufut and Tanji which was equally diverse and enjoyable. I would definitely do further tours with him. He’s excellent company and easy to talk to.

My wife and I travelled to the Gambia in Nov 23. This was our second visit having been there a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience then. We are very keen on experiencing the full range on plants and animals wherever we go, including at home in the Uk.

The Gambia is a great destination particularly for bird watching enthusiasts.

We met Yuspha one this first trip and were so impressed by his guiding skills and extensive knowledge of all aspects of the natural history of West Africa that we were very keen to engage his services for a full week.

We booked our own flights through 'the Gambia experience' and hotel accomodation on arrival and the day before departure.
Yuspha organised all the trips we went on including accomodation and meals for the other 5 days that we ventured up river.

We saw lots of wildlife a lot of which we would have missed without his expert guidance, and took us to places we could not have accessed without him.

Yuspha is a lovely person to be around and very well informed by all things natural, ecological and to do with the Gambia and surrounding countries. He is also well informed on birds across the world.

I would definitely use his services again if we should visit the Gambia again.

We met Yuspha in Bijilo Park, where he works voluntarily explaining all the ins and outs of the life and characteristics of the park's monkeys, birds and flora. He treated us in a gentle and courteous manner, giving all the necessary explanations with a patience rarely seen in the West.
Being interested in hiring a guide and a vehicle to visit the Fathala nature reserve, in Senegal, from Gambia, we consulted Yuspha, and he offered us everything we needed to enjoy that visit. He arranged for us to have a car with a driver who picked us up at our resort in Serekunda early in the morning, arranged for us to cross the border and provided us with another adapted vehicle to do the safari through the Fathala nature reserve... Doing that we had the best of experiences.
Furthermore, the price he gave us was the cheapest of all those we consulted for the same excursion.
At all times, even when we finished the excursion and were returning to our resort, he took care of managing taxis and reservations for subsequent days of our visit, since he was able to find better prices as he was a local.
That said, if one day I return to Gambia, of all the guides I met there in the different activities, there is none like Yuspha.

We had previously employed Yuspha a few years ago when we went upriver on the Fula Princess.
This year he took us up country by car along the south bank road including a night at Tendaba Camp and the boat trip up the creek. This was particularly successful as we saw 3 Blue Flycatchers and the rare Pel's Fishing Owl. Other highlights included both Temminck's and Bronze-winged Coursers, a wealth of raptors and despite this being my 13th trip to The Gambia a couple of lifers.
We also did a day trip with Yuspha back on the coat.
Apart from his identification skills on birds Yuspha has a wide knowledge of other wildlife including insects, reptiles and trees. What's more he is very good company .

We met Yusupha when he was doing volunteer guiding in the Bijilo (Monkey) Park. I wanted a guide that knew birds and he was wearing a Birdwatchers Association T-shirt, so that was a good match. It turns out Yusupha knew everything. About birds, but also about the trees and plants and insects.

We took our time going through the park and he was completely OK with that, being happy to show us the beautiful wildlife of Gambia. When we came close to the entrance again the other guides there asked jokingly "Did you sleep in the park?", but we had a wonderful time there with Yusupha. He is a very kind and relaxed guy who we will surely ask to tour us around the next time we're in Gambia. It will be great!

Yusupha is the most incredible tour guide in The Gambia. As a solo female traveller I was so impressed with his kind professional nature and incredible knowledge. His tours where the absolute highlight of my trip and I can't recommend him highly enough.

If you want the best natured human being as your guide and someone to help you experience holiday of lifetime, incredible wildlife, see the real culture and learn about the history / traditions of this amazing country. Yusupha is the guide for you.

The trips I experienced included a visit to the Bijilo Forest. Yusupha knew so much information about the monkey's, birds, butterflies, trees and other plants. A lot of visitors just go to see the monkey's but Yusupha taught me so much more about the area.

On a separate day we went on an early morning bird watching boat trip. Yusupha arranged for a private boat and skipper. Provided binoculars and could recognise the most incredible wildlife which we were able to see in their own habitat. We saw so many birds!... African Fish Eagle, African Darter, Yellow-Billed Stork, Malachite Kingfisher, Goliath Heron, Common Sandpiper, Common Redshank, Western Reef Heron, Giant Kingfisher, Caspian Tern, Slender-Billed Gull, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Osprey, Spure-winged Plover and a Whimbrel.

It was an incredible experience that I will never forget as we also got to see two Crocodiles and a Brown-Tailed Mongoose!

On the way back to the hotel we stopped off at the Kartong Market to buy fruit and Tanji Fishing Village. No one paid any unwanted attention to me whist being with Yuspha which was great and he knew all of the places to visit to see the fishermen bringing in their haul, the people selling the daily catch and also the fish smoking houses. We got to speak to the locals and it was the most exhilarating adventure where I felt completely at ease and able to enjoy every second. Not something that I would have been able to have done alone or even in a group.

Here is a list of all of the tours Yusupha provides:

Birdwatching day trip to:
1. Abuko Nature Reserve.
2. Tujereng Woods.
3. Brufut Woods.
4. Kartong Alahin Creeks and Swamps.
5. Marakisa River and Woodlands.
6. Pirang Ponds.
7. Bonto Forest.
8. Farababanta Bush Track.
9. Tanji Bird Reserve
10. Tanji Fishing Village

Birdwatching over nights trips upriver:
1. Tendaba Camp .
2. Wassu Swamps.
3. Georgetown.
4. Basse Fields.
5. Wassadu Camp in Senegal.

Safari day trips:
1. Fathala National Park North of Sengal.

His email is: yuspha_jammeh704@yahoo.com

I hope this information is useful to other solo and group travellers! I will certainly be going back to the Gambia to experience more of his excellent tours.
