My teenage son and I took a tour with Baja Sierra adventures earlier this week. Our tour guide was Manuel and we visited Aguas Caliente Canyon where we hiked approximately 4 1/2 to 5 miles, swam & jumped into two great water holes and enjoyed a fun lunch. Our tour ended with an approximately three mile fun down hill bike ride. It took us about an hour and 10 minutes to get to Santiago from Cabo San Lucas & this was a great break from the party vibe of Medano Beach. Manuel was knowledgeable, helpful & professional, highly recommend!

This is a scam. We struggled to get a hold of the company. Finally got connected to the guides wife and child who answered the phone and told us he is out on a tour and that the guide who is fluent in English would call us back. Two days later he didn’t call us back. We called and he said I got an email from you I thought you we already confirmed. We spoke on the phone about details of day trip. He said we wouldn’t be visiting ranch for lunch he would pack a lunch. He didn’t ask about diet restrictions. We drove an hour out and let him know our ETA, no answer. When we arrived we called before turning into the isolated dirt road. No answer. After waiting for 5 minutes we turned back. 52 1 624 166 8706

ALIMENTO:
Atún en sobre.
Sopas instantaneas de sobre.
Huevos ya quebrados en una botella.
Bolsas congeladas de comida preparada(caldos, frijoles, sopas).
Queso, tortillas, jamón, salchicha...

LO MAS IMPORTANTE
Recuerda no dejar basura.
Respetar flora y fauna.
Respetar señalamientos.
Iniciar fuego unicamente en lugares señalados.
Cuida de la biosfera, recuerda que estas en una reservanatural protegida.

This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. I stayed at a serene ecolodge on the edge and mountain biked on my own for 3 days, then I went on a three day, two night guided hiking and camping trip with a guide from Baja Sierra Adventures (based in Santiago, excellent outfit, they provided excellent camping gear and mountain bikes). The first day, we hiked in and swam in pristine mountain pools, then bouldered back to the trail head. The canyon we were in was composed of granite cliffs and gian boulders that were awe-inspiringly gorgeous. You could spend a long time admiring each individual boulder, they were stunningly adorned with various other rocks. At hikes end, we had an opportunity to mountain bike on a rolling, sandy road. At the end of the first night, we went to a base camp at the end of Canyon San Dionisio, located at the edge of a ranch. The next day, we hiked in and reached a higher elevation where the pinyon pine forest was in sight; I biked back to Santiago along a roughly 10 mile, rolling road. My visit totaled 6 days but I would gladly have spent 2 weeks in this beautiful area. If you decide to hike in to one of the higher peaks, you would do well to take mules, as the through hike to Todos Santos takes days and involves a lot of steep trails. Unlike one of the other reviewers who hiked for 3 days on his own to the summit, I personally would not trust myself to be able to pick out the right paths. It seemed to me that the hikes were all along cow paths and there were periodic junctions where you had to be familiar with the surroundings to select the correct path. I plan on returning to try to summit with Baja Sierra Adventures, who can arrange for mules and provide all the equipment for camping plus all the food and water needed for multiple days.

This area offers a variety of hiking experiences from easy to difficult. It is absolutely necessary in my opinion to go with a guide and wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots.

The area was not buggy in December (I did not see any bugs or get any bites). The temps ranged from the 40s at night to the mid 70s in the daytime. Relative to Cabo, it is shadier and cooler, but you still need to bring water and sunscreen. My guide said that area is too hot starting in June and that during the rainy season, the canyons are also prone to flash floods and the rivers that are swimmable in the Fall can be very dangerous.

Well worth the time spent.

Absolutely gorgeous, we hiked in the stream and in places with no path. We all loved it! It was a perfect, gorgeous day, but the sand was really sharp!

I met Edgardo, a local tour guide, in Santiago. He assured me I'd be able to hike up without a guide or map, and that I would find water sources on the way. I decided to take some machaca and granola with me, as I knew I'd be spending at least a couple of nights in the mountain. There are a few paths starting from different points, and I went up the San Dionisio path. The weather was very sunny and dry. There were two small camping spots on the way up, before reaching the valley of the lagoon. Many streams and waterfalls in the area. I hiked down the opposite way I went up, and at the highest point was able to see the Pacific ocean on one side and the Gulf on the other. It's possible to find a PDF online from the CONANP of the Sierra de la Laguna hiking trails.

My hubby and I didn't make it all the way to the falls; strenuous hike for us, but will definitely try again. Worth the effort, beautiful area! Take plenty of water and head scarves / hats for sun protection. If ATVing in, get goggle to protect from dusty road. Watch for cattle! We had an angry toro on our path, and just climbing up and away from them. Cold, refreshing stream at lower access points is great for a soak.

I consider this hike as moderate to strenuous with beautiful views of waterfalls, rivers and boulders. Must have good balancing techniques if hiking across boulders along the river. great workout!

We hired a guide of the zone. My husband & I love nature so we take our 60 years old moms & we had a great time & local lunch (around 4hrs total). It is safe enough & the walking was full with nature & beautiful sights. There are onyx giant rocks so the visuals within the mountains are incredible. If you want to find all the secret rivers & fountains better to know how to swim, there is not much strength in the torrent so you could go with a life vest, still you need to be strong enough to be claiming & walking through the rocks which is really fun as long as you do it safe, with someone else guiding knowing the area. Our mothers stayed next to one of the rivers & they had a nice evening in the middle of mother nature. There is a hotel in Santiago which is a really small town, cheap & it give you time & clean shower after the visit.

There are other Reserves in the zone, some of them require more time, Edgardo was a great guide, he´s an expert so he can cover Camping, etc. It depends of the level of the experience you want.
