Incredible drive, winding road that goes over a mountain. Breathtaking views and a very fun drive. Well worth the trip, I would do this again.

My wife and I rode this road on our motorcycles taking the Lillooet to Pemberton route. Weather was perfect and we left early enough to avoid most of the traffic. Having said that, most of the traffic was concentrated on the Pemberton 'half' which is understandable. The road is in fairly good condition given the weather extremes that it is subjected to. Keep in mind that it is a two lane road and there are very limited places to pull over and stop. Take your time, enjoy the scenery and one of BC's best roads.

Such an awesome drive- beautiful in every way. We took our time and found a couple of stop points to take pictures. Even though the weather was iffy, we still enjoyed it.

Instead of taking a 4-hour Hwy 1 boring drive from Richmond, we opted for this drive from Richmond via Whistler through Duffy lake road (6+ hour). This turns out to be one of the memorable drives we have done. The drive is a single line throughout but not much traffic. Keep your eye open for roadside ditch for bear, once you reach Duffy lake. We came across three of them. The view throughout is magnificent and jaw-dropping. Luckily we took this drive in mid-summer but strongly advise to check BC park and weather for any advisory.

The views cannot be beat, but personally having some fear of heights, this was a bit much for my first drive through the mountains. There was some construction going on, seemingly to me (fear in active mode) quite high in the mountains and close to an edge, with room for only one way traffic. These issues were mine alone and my unreasonable fears, but I was honestly not prepared at all. I had heard the highway from Golden to Revelstoke was intimidating but had no issues with that one, so this route was a surprise that had me in tears. Whenever we pulled over though and my feet were on the ground, I was so very grateful to experience it. The variety of views was unreal! So grateful for my husband and his patience. He loved the drive, the views and entire experience (although I’m sure he would have preferred different company, although he denies it lol 😂). Working up my courage to do this route again. I think it would be better for me to travel it in the opposite direction so I am on the mountainside of the road through the parts that took my breath away, not the side on the edge of the drop.

There was still snow on the mountain when we were driving on this Duffy Lake Road or Hwy 99, you would see the 'Avalanche' sign almost everywhere. At some points we needed to drive slower. It's a very nice road with some stops such as Seton lake, Duffey lake, Joffre lake and Lillooet lake. Almost the whole route from Seton lake to Duffy lake, you will see the creek on the left or right side of the road and also a small waterfall along the road.

Drove the Duffy Lake Road on a road trip across Canada and back via US. Had been told it was a great experience but nothing prepares you for the excitement of the road and the absolutely stunning scenery along it. It is a drivers dream but you need to know what you are doing if you want to take full advantage of it. I rate it more highly than the Corniche in France. If you get the chance, do it. Preferably in a sporty car and not a motorhome!!!

Gorgeous scenery, but a little scarey at times - some of the switchbacks & drop-offs got my adrenalin pumping!!

One of the most beautiful driving roads I've been lucky enough to experience. As a few others have suggested you'll want to drive it fast but will find yourself stopping frequently to take in some of the vistas. Joffre is the most notable place to stop along the way. Make sure to have a full tank of gas and full stomach as there is NOTHING along most of the road - no service stations or eateries or public bathrooms...

Hi ALL past users of "Duffy Lake Road" Hwy 99!
We are hiring a 32" RV (with 3 bikes on the back as well!!) in late June this year and have planned a route using this road. I have read all your comments (about braking and switchbacks!) and i did run it past the RV hire company to see if it was a "NO GO road" but they did not comment.
I am experienced in driving large vehicles and have a PCV (Double Decker Passenger Bus Licence -UK) and drove 12 metre buses all over Brighton UK for 7 years, but these are different beasts and i have never driven one before!
In all of your opinions... is this road SAFE and practical to drive with an RV of the length? (I am very considerate driver and will be contiually pulling over to allow faster vehicles to pass).
I don't want to get half way along and get stuck! We have all day to get from Squamish to Lilliooet. Is that practical in this size RV?
Thank you in advance for all of your helpful advice.
Paul - Sussex, UK.

Hi there, we traveled the Duffy lake road from Whistler to Lillooet (then to Pavillion to Cache creek to Sun Peaks). We found all the sealed roads are very good.
There is NO restrictions and road is safe for RV's and I don't believe you will require permission from your hire company to travel this good road.
Be sure to stop at the waterfalls (Shannon, Brandywine, Nairn) from Squamish to Whistler, Joffre lakes after Pemberton, Duffey & Setton lakes-you will love the scenery.
Have a great trip. Alex (cagatravel)

Hi everyone - I'm wondering how this road compares to Road 40 between Bralorne, BC and Lillooet, BC? I found Road 40 scary when returning to Lillooet because of being on the outside edge of a very narrow road with a drop off. I've read that the Duffy is narrow, too narrow for 2 cars to pass - is this true for most of the road? Also, are there severe switchbacks?

Hi: Two lanes sealed all the way, with all switchbacks manageable. We were headed from Lillooet to Pemberton and there were some pretty quick SUV worker/commuters headed in the opposite direction at speed, but no problems, even navigable by the odd busload of tourists. They've done a fair amount of maintenance work on the road and its safe. There is a drop off, but it's two lanes - Enjoy.

hi we are travelling from wells gray pp to Squamish, stopping at whistler in a 30ft RV. Towards the end of September. We found we have a day/night spare. Would the Duffy lake road trip be suitable for our vehicle, or perhaps you could suggest another trip
Thank you

When we did the trip there were a few other RVs the size of yours. The road is windy but is in excellent condition. I couldn't see a problem. Hope you have fun, we did.
