Quartier: South Kensington

By launching this text at The Mosaic Rooms has its rootedness in the Middle Eastern world and contemporary voices provide an intertextual relief for understanding new perspectives about Arab literature in the modern world. It was an illustrious conversation communicated between author Mai Al Nakib and Selma Dabbagh about the thematic concerns raised in this text, An Unlasting Home.

The price of this book is an invaluable excuse to read more widely and enjoy the sensory experience given by the prose exhibited. It is an important idea that explores a female multi-generational narrative at the foregrounding the conservative legalisation passed against what would be considered as Blasphemy. Each female voice witnesses the effects of the legalisation in different guises depending upon age, gender and life experiences. Oral history is a direct interpretation of presenting femininity across different generations.

The independent publishing house Saki champions and encourages alternative guises within the sphere of the new writing experience exist to expand experimental women's writers such as Salma Dabbagh to articulate awakenings in selfhood.

In its format, the event worked to be informal and provide each individual with a sense of ease. On personal reflection the thematic concern of language speaks with vivid accuracy and individualistic articulatory opening opportunities to engage in contemporary Arabic countries.

The motif of law acting as a determinant for giving apparent justice to the characters in the text and the text continues to challenge how much the narrative is entailed to reveal to its readership. It is an ambitious approach to write about Kuwait and geographically locates this text as a pathway to give this nation a strong literary representation beyond the contemporary Arabic canon.

A passage from the text remains inseparable to making sense of the cultural constructs involving the patriarchal structures which reminds us all that 'Influencing the law for the Judge to make his verdict' seems to be openly challenged by the prose of Selma Dabbagh.

ONE-SENTENCE SUMMARY. A solo exhibition linking the hardship of both territories.

Exhibits occupy both the ground floor galleries and the basement.

G/F: Sketches and diaries based on interviews in Palestine.

Basement: Craft works surrounded by cold political statements, the Indian Constitution and Kashmir’s independence declarations.

LOCATION. Nearest station: Earl’s Court. As you exit the station, go across the street then all the way north, north, north. The Mosaic Road is right across Cromwell Road.

FEES. Free entry for all.

BEFORE YOU VISIT. The website is pretty ambiguous on its holiday opening hours. To avoid disappointment, enquire before your journey.

A beautiful building with staff keen to educate about the culture and environment, and discuss contemporary issues of the current societies in the region. A peaceful exhibition space showcases arts and crafts with facilities to contemplate modern digital media. Check out the programme of events and talks.

Visit: “When Legacies became Debts”

... Which means in terms of style it is variety all over the place. But thematically, we as observers get to share this eternal struggle, between a tradition, and everything else.

So find yourself in a healthy yet long list of media. (Serious) documentaries. A spiral staircase filled with books. Photography. The repeated pixilation of an art exhibition transforming information into chaos (video).

You can find all the art works on the ground floor or in the basement. Except for one, and somewhat forgotten by the curators (having not mentioned it) – a book work and an audio display between G and 1/F, working on the interesting premise of how public art has ‘been disappeared’ around the spring of 2010, suggesting a sadly collective process much akin to ‘bees’ in a ‘beehive’.

I'm glad to see such galleries as the Mosaic Rooms focusing on arts from a crowd less being heard. When we were there, they were showing an exhibition called "What do you mean, here we are?", which was work from artist at the Townhouse gallery, Cairo, Egypt. There was a lovely model of the Townhouse gallery and the surrounding streets and a variation from installation to video arts. The art mostly shows their culture and the suppression artists are having within the area. Very unique artworks indeed!
It's free to enter, so I do recommend to have a look. It doesn't feel like a gallery space, more like a small museum with its own shop and cafe.

Всем, кто любит все, что связанное с мозаикой - вам сюда. Лично мне было не интересно - я был с группой, и слушал в пол уха. Но тем, кто интересуется, это будет интересным и полезным

Nice little gallery with plenty of lectures and events going on. Worth a stop if you happen to be strolling between the museums and Earl's Court.

I love the exhibitions at The Mosaic Rooms, they are intimate and quite unique, but what distinguishes The Mosaic Rooms from other venues is the excellence of hteir talks and their absolutely delicious Supper Club events. Not only do you eat he most delicious food, but you learn so much about the differences between the various Middle East Countries and also the similarities between all "Family Recipes".
The Mosaic Rooms are truly an amazing addition to the Kensington cultural scene: a must visit place ALL year round!
