Quartier: Vieille ville

We found that there weren't that many stalls and there were duplicates of the stalls that were there- especially of the food stalls. The disabled toilets were locked and not easily accessible as the key for them had be fetched from another stall. The way through the market was accessible enough for wheelchairs or for walking. The mulled wine was very nice indeed and, while the hot dogs were tasty, they were definitely over-priced for what you got. A lot of the products there were over-priced. It was pleasant to wonder around but we didn't feel the need to stay long.

Extremely expensive and low quality food and drink.

Even with the 20% EH postcode discount the rides were extremely short and extremely expensive for what you get. It is very, very poor value for money.

On top of this the food was an utter disappointment with reheated precooked hamburgers, chips like bullets and the tiniest and toughest donuts that will set you back six quid for four!!! Don’t bother with them.

The biggest disappointment of all was the Rackette stand was no longer there which usually dishes up the best of Edinburghs Christmas but the Belgian hot chocolate was with its eye watering £6 chocolate dipped strawberries.

In and out in 40 minutes and £100 lighter next year we will spend our money on tickets for the Royal Ballet because this jaunt was a disappointing rip off.

A much smaller market than in previous years but this was to be expected due to the pandemic. What spoilt our visit was the ludicrous entry and exit arrangements. These may well have been necessary pre Christmas when the market was very busy, but in January when it is quiet, it was ridiculous that the only entry point was a long and at times very steep walk away from the actual market. This was even more mystifying given that people could mingle freely once inside and walk in whichever direction they wanted to.

Ventured here before Covid where the market was packed with people, food, delicious mulled wine and miscellaneous vendors. I found it quite enjoyable and found several presents here. I hope sometime in the near future it will become this way again, gathering from recent reviews, Covid has done a number in merchant participation the past several years.

I was surprised they made the markets a lot smaller than previous years with Covid, therefore more people crammed into a smaller space. There is a lot more room to have the stalls spread out however it was quite crammed.

The big wheel was £10 per adult and both of us went on it. 4 cycles which was generous enough however they need to sort out the voice recording on loop. It ruined the experience.

The stalls are great though and the atmosphere was great.

I love the Edinburgh markets.

The Christmas market this year is much smaller then previous years. However, we still found it enjoyable. In a tough situation with rules constantly changing we felt that the market was still an enjoyable experience and was done the best it could be to meet current restrictions. There was no ridiculously long lines to get in as previous people have posted, people had their masks on and it wasn’t overly crowded. As for comments on it being expensive, I don’t really know what people expect at a Christmas market they are always expensive 😅. We managed to buy a few unique items and get something to eat and drink. It still looks very festive at night when it is lit up.
It certainly hasn’t put us off going back again when it can go back to its usual set up.

Not fine. Queued for 45 mins but the market stalls were too few and far between. Not as great an atmosphere due to covid restrictions. I think they should’ve just cancelled this. It was more bother than it’s worth. I did however purchase some nice things from local merchants in the market to boost their sales. Felt sorry for the vendors.

Came to the market specifically to go on the big wheel. A massive let down. Pretty to look at, but for a hefty price you get one stop/start spin whilst they're getting all the paying customers on, then 2 spins which happen in a matter of minutes, then it's all over. Door opens. Get out.
To top it off was the TRASHY voice recording played on REPEAT. Advertising of course - on about other affiliated events around the city. Essentially paid to have their advertising rammed down my throat.
Uninviting and sterile. We were very underwhelmed.
Bit of a suggestion, how about instead you try play abit of Christmas music maybe!?
Something that doesn't kill whatever residual joy that might be left inside😂

What a waste of time..

A "market" shouldn't be predominately carnival rides, alcohol stands, fast food stands..

It took all of 10/15 minutes to walk through as the amount of stands was poor at best. The sweet stand taking up a large area but charging significantly more per 100g than in the same shops in town..
£5 for a crepe (add £2 more for a topping) so £28 for a family of four is taking the pee..

I wasn't brave (or foolish) enough to check out the price of drinks..

It was that disappointing I didn't even take 1 picture..

We read "The Best In Europe" sadly that was way, way off the mark..

For a capital city, it’s pretty rubbish. One small section of street full of stalls selling the same things every third stall. Rides overpriced. Took us about 10 minutes to walk through.
