After we had finished our visit of the “War Museum – Bastogne” and enjoyed a warm soup in the café, we left the museum and went nex door to visit the “Battle of the Bulge Monument” who is formerly known as the Mardasson Memorial. This is a monument honoring the memory of American soldiers wounded or killed during World War II's Battle of the Bulge. Designed in the shape of a five-pointed American star, it is located near Bastogne in the Luxembourg province of Belgium. The first step toward the memorial was undertaken on July 4, 1946, with the presentation of some earth from the site to U.S. President Harry Truman. The dedication was on July 16, 1950.

Henri Mignon is a wonderful tour guide! My husband, daughter & I arrived in Bastogne after a recent snowstorm--roads were icy and sites were under 5 inches of snow. However, Henri pressed on. In one day we learned so much history and visited so many sites that he put in moving historical perspective. I cannot imagine anyone more knowledgeable with more personal and historical context to share on the events of the Battle of the Bulge. We took the one-day tour, but would love to return for more. I am sure that Henri has much more to teach us. Truly the highlight of our wonderful trip to Belgium. Very highly recommended!

Erg goed, was een leerzame en inspirerende dag met Henry. Een fijne man om mee op reis te gaan. We zijn in 1 dag over de slagvelden rond Bastogne gegaan. Het is aan te raden om een 2 daagse tour met Henry te doen.

Spent the day with Henri who was the perfect guide for the area around Bastogne. Was incredibly helpful when arranging the tour and made suggestions to make best use of the full day. Gave us remarkable and very personal insight into what took place in Bastogne and the surrounds and took us to places and passed information we'd never have heard/seen if we'd travelled around on our own. Would highly recommend.

Henri Mignon is the BEST tour guide hands down! My family (2 Adults, 1 Teen) booked Henri for a 3 day Battle of the Bulge tour. His incredible knowledge and personal experience, having lived through the Battle at 9 years old, made our trip to Belgium one we will remember all our lives. Henri researched the information about my grandfather's service during the war and customized our tour, so we visited the hospital where my grandfather was most likely killed and his grave at Henri Chapelle American Cemetery. Henri will happily personalize the tour to your needs and interests. As a resident of Bastogne, Henri is just "in the know". Everyone from the hotel & restaurant owners to the cemetery & museum personnel seemed to know and to like Henri. He even sent a recommended reading list for my daughter to use for her school term paper on the Battle of the Bulge. He is a true gentleman and a consummate professional. Henri's dedication to teaching others about the horrors of war and the tremendous sacrifice made by so many to free Europe and the world from the Nazis is astounding and should be commended. As a victim of the war and battle himself, having lost his father and two best friends, it is remarkable how he has dedicated his life to learning and to teaching others.

Henri was incredibly knowledgeable with first hand experience, being 9 when the Battle of the Bulge was taking place. Exceptional guide with excellent English! I just wish I had booked him for more time. He knows the sites first hand. He is an excellent communicator when booking/confirming. Highly, Highly recommended.

I cannot express in words or in this review how knowledgable Henri's knowledge is with Battle of the Bulge history and military history. Myself being non military, I thought at first that his knowledge would be intimidating, but I was put at ease right away with his easy demeanor. He has firsthand personal knowledge and stories of Battle of the Bulge history due to being a small boy during the Nazi occupation of Belgium and his hometown . Since I am a Registered Nurse, I had asked me to speak about the role of nurses during The Battle of the Bulge. Henri took me to the gravesites of Renee Lemeire (who was sadly killed on Christmas Eve during a German air raid) and Augusta Chiwy, two nurses who volunteered to serve and help treat injured soldiers during The Battle of the Bulge. Henri took me to many Battle of the Bulge sights and monuments in Belgium and Luxembourg, and explained each incident with precise detail, but also explained the human side and cost. Being American, it was very humbling to visit and learn the history of these sights to show how terrible and painful war is. It is also very honoring the way Bastogne is welcoming to American people and and has not forgotten even after almost 75 years. Do not hesitate to book Henri, you will learn so much, thank you so much Henri, I learned so much when you guided me for two days.

We booked a day tour with Henri. He was very flexible with itinerary. Took us to the less known British bit too. He is extremely knowledgeable about the battle of the bulge, even my husband, who has read about this battle extensively was impressed. I am a novice but I found his personal stories both engaging and moving. A very nice man and I recommend him unreservedly. Maria from London

Had a morning tour with Henri Mignon and it was incredible.
From enquiry to the actual day, everything was superb.
His knowledge was endless, it is clear this is a topic he is passionate about and this is expressed through his fantastic story telling and knowledge of the area.
He collected me promptly from my hotel and took me on a tour based around my most interested parts, due to limited time. Nothing felt rushed but i was grateful for how much he crammed into a short morning.
A keen interest of mine was Band of Brothers and his account of meeting the soldiers and the locations from the series including the fox holes were incredible.
He also took me to a German Cemetery and a normal cemetery where a Bomber crew had been shot down.
He really brought the history to life. I can't recommend him highly enough.

My World War II-nerd friend and I spent three days touring with Henri Mignin. I can't recommend M. Mignon highly enough. He is exceptionaly knowledgeable — he was never stumped by my travelling companion's arcane questions about the battle, tanks, guns, anything. He is professional and organized — we were able to see and learn more with M. Mignon than we could have managed on our own. And it was just a pleasure to spend time with M. Mignon, discussing the battle or learning about life in Bastogne.

How do I make a reservation for a tour?

I’m trying to get you the info you need in a round about way. Googling mardasson should bring up Henri Mignon’s site (not sophisticated or fancy), but filled with tons of valuable info for planning your visit to Battle of the Bulge sites. Once you locate mardasson...you should see his contact info in the top left corner. Henry’s outline of the various tours he offers 1/2 day, full day, 2 or 3 day provides you with a great outline of all there really is to see regarding the Battle of the Bulge. Henri will happily tailor it to your interests and time constraints.

The cost depends on whether the guide comes with you in your car or whether he uses his own car. The cost for us was 200 euros per day, using our car. The charge would have been 350 euros per day, if we had used the guide's car. We paid in cash, at the end of the tour.

It depends on how many hours and if you drive or he does. We rode with him and its was great. He came to our hotel. I want to say it was 120-140 but it is worth it and he is the real deal.

I’m B from Italy and I would like partecipate to the commemorations to Bastogne in dicember 2016 (I don’t know the exactly which days now). I’m interested to the tour of the battle fields around Bastogne with guide that speak Italian.
Is possible organize the battle fields tour ? If yes what is the conditions and the costs ?

I have family coming from the States in June who only know of Bastogne from the movies and from Band of Brothers. We have a tight schedule and would only have a day to visit. Recommendations appreciated!
