No hesitation at all in leaving a 5-star review. I booked on the 4 1/2 day Spey Canoe expedition, what an experience it was. I was slightly apprehensive when I booked, as I'd never been in a canoe before, and I'm not exactly super-fit. But the tuition and patience from Leon and Ian was outstanding, and I felt I was in safe hands from the outset - their huge amount of skill and experience is clearly evident

Such a variety of skills to be learned - canoeing, wild camping using a hammock and tarp (another first for me), fire-lighting using a ferro-rod, cooking in the wild, bushcraft skills, plant identification, the safe use of knifes and other tools.

On the first afternoon we learned basic paddling techniques, then over the next four days these were put into practice as we made our way along the Spey. The first day was relatively calm, and the amount of birdlife and other wildlife we saw was amazing. Then the route got more technical as we progressed along the course - with some very exciting/challenging moments at times.

By the end of the course I was somewhat tired, to say the least - but the enjoyment factor from start to finish was off the scale.

If you like the idea of seeing fantastic scenery and wildlife, learning new skills, having something of an adventure, getting back to nature and spending time with a fantastic bunch of people, book this course - I guarantee you'll have a smile on your face from start to finish.

Fantastic course! Leon was a great teacher, showed us all the basics of foraging, finding and filtering water, game prep, making fire… he also demoed how to trap and we made our own shelter to sleep in! I had a great time and learned a ton. Will definitely recommend around me. Thanks Leon!

What an incredible experience! We booked a private class on coastal foraging and learned from the charming and knowledgeable Leon, a patient and encouraging teacher. We foraged/cooked/ate seaweeds and shellfish and brewed nettle tea. He taught us proper canoeing technique, knife and fire safety/use, creel setting, and primitive fishing. Such a delight! We learned a terrific amount and enjoyed our day with a capable guide. Leon’s dog Bracken was a welcome addition to our crew and his wife Alison a lovely person.

We did a coastal foraging day and had a fantastic and memorable experience. Leon is very knowledgeable and offered a whole host of information on the changing tides, seaweeds, building fires in wet weather, and of course, the shellfish you can forage and eat independently.

Cooking-wise, we ate a whole host of things, highlights would be the razor clams and seaweed bread. Would like to forget would be the semi-cooked cockles, but that was my bad, as it was my cooking!

He was also very considerate in his role of being sustainable in his local area, only taking what we ate, and not taking anything he felt was endangered/low resource.

Thoroughly recommend this experience, make sure you have waterproofs for wading.

An absolutely fantastic weekend learning knew skills and techniques whilst making new friends along the way.

Leon was a marvel!!

Nicknamed, "Bushcraft Yoda", he is clearly passionate for everything outdoors. His patience, bushcraft skills and extensive knowledge of the environment around us meant we ate like kings! The educational knowledge instilled around sustainability, nutrition and techniques ensured I learned so much and took home new skills that I can use again and again.

Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

We were originally going to do a foraging day but decided to do the nomadic survival weekend instead as we wanted to spend a bit more time on the activities and we were also up for a bit of a challenge.

The course was well organised and we got to try quite a lot of activities in a relatively short period of time (setting up a tarp, foraging on land and on the coastline, fire lighting, navigation etc.).

Leon was great, very knowledgeable and adapted to the group's skill/energy levels.

We would recommend the course to anyone looking to learn some survival skills in a beautiful part of the country.

I took part in the day of costal foraging which was friendly and brilliant fun. We learnt lots about different seaweeds and clams and then we foraged for some razor clams and lobsters.
Once we had gathered the food we enjoyed a very tasty cook up over the fire pit which was brilliant.

Thanks to Leon and Alison who were always friendly and helpful. I highly recommended you try one of their courses.

Thanks
Ben

Tremendous day in a extraordinary part of Scotland! Weather was wet but Leon showed us how to fish, cook, make fire and read the wildlife and so the rain was not an issue, but in fact a blessing, as we learned these skills in potentially tougher conditions than other days. Leon is calm, encouraging, knowledgeable and good company. We learned a lot in a small space of time from him and I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the outdoors!!

Bonuses of the day ..... the sea otter, within throwing distance, eating his fish on the rocks. And next to no midges!

Hopefully get a chance to go back!

My partner and I enjoyed a great day with Leon honing our novice navigation skills. We're competent hillwalkers but rely on technology so wanted a better grasp of traditional methods.

Leon was great at simplifying various techniques using a map and compass and took us on a really challenging hill climb.

He was also very patient and supportive which helps when you're out of your comfort zone.

We had a wonderful day exploring the islands and beaches of Lochailort with Leon. We thoroughly enjoyed foraging and cooking coastal cuisine on the stunning sands, and learned lots from Leon on the local habitat, survival, and tides. He explained everything very well, and taught us to canoe as a pair. Truly inspiring day in a stunning west coast setting. Thanks to Alison for hosting us in the shepherds hut, which was very cozy.
