We visited this wonderful museum when looking for the site of the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, demolished in 1989. The proprietor of the museum has done a wonderful job in arranging the renovation of this important building, which he bought about 1990. The interesting old shop was empty when he acquired it but with the help of local support the shop now closely resembles a period interior, with shelves of products ‘for sale’. Upstairs, where there used to be a gentleman’s outfitters, is a shop selling wool products and paintings. Adjacent to the shop is a cafe and shop. A group of Welsh learners had gathered there for their weekly meeting. An interesting range of books was on display too, and I bought one about Radnorshire chapels.
This is an unusual and fascinating place to go.

Lovely home made food, river side outside seating, friendly welcome, and most interesting museum upstairs. Well worth a visit when you are travelling along the A44

Well, an 'interesting' little place to say the least.

I stopped in for a cuppa and a bite, in from the rain.

It seems to be an eclectic building full of 'stuff' with a couple of antique tables and chairs in the middle of a large room. You feel as though you've landed back in grandma's house from the 1950's lol! The wasn't any heating on and I was cold but none of the other diners appeared to be suffering and so I guess it was just me.

Had a coffee, slice of cake and a panini, with salad. All very good value (£10). The cake was glorious! The panini I didn't enjoy quite so much as it tasted as though it had been deep-fried (dark and crispy rather than break-like). Sorry I didn't mention it at the time. You seemed such a lovely lady :-/

We are locals and this place is a must go to for all our visitors. The owners are so friendly and their home made cakes are smashing. There is no entry fee and you are encouraged to be touchy feely.

Great coffee and homemade cake. Sat in the garden, by the river. It was very relaxing, stroked the cats and watched them play, while reading a book, next to a group of conversational Welsh speakers.
Did a quick visit to the shop museum. Will be back to spend more time and enjoy more cake.

To break a long journey we called at the Thomas Shop. We found it a fascinating experience, unlike many museums you can wander behind the counters as well as in the centre of the shop. My wife and I are only in our sixties but we found many of the items in the shop that reminded us of our childhood. We also enjoyed the homemade baking and drinks at a table in the garden on such a hot day. We also used the facilities which were spotless which is a must for families, We recommend a visit as the staff were very welcoming and very informative

We enjoyed our visit to this unique place, part shop, part museum. We ate a very reasonably-priced light lunch lunch in the pleasant garden.

We stayed in the Meeting House (can be booked via Airbnb) and really enjoyed our time there. The museum is crammed full of fascinating old objects and is laid out like an old shop (which it used to be) which you could spend ages looking around. There are other rooms with local homemade crafts, jams, woollen items as well as books for sale. It's a family-run business with very friendly owners and you can tell the whole place is a labour of love for them. There seems to be something interesting to look at in every corner of the place. We had tasty cakes and coffee in the cafe too. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area. The opening times are currently 10am - 5pm Thursday - Sunday (they are also open on Bank Holiday Mondays).

Our day out in Llandrindod was patchy, as the Cycle Museum and many shops were closed, it being a Wednesday. The museum was open and free to visit, as most museums used to be! A fascinating collection, very well presented with lovely, helpful staff, very much the highlight of a day in the town. If you like museums of the 'old school' you'll love this one!
