We had three days out on the boat whale watching with BJ and Ness.
Each day was different and quite magical. The whales decide what your underwater interaction will be and how much they want to show you.
Above water it was so lovely to have a local couple, BJ and Ness, share the history of the island and take us out.
They were super respectful of the whales and this was important to us also.
We will definitely come back for more whale adventures with them

Just had 2 weeks on "The Rock" in the Pacific, Niue Island and my husband had 3 Charters with BJ from Fish Niue Charters.BJ is a very experienced skipper and knows how to get you on to fish. He did mostly trolling and my husband caught Wahoo, Mahimahi, yellow fin tuna, barracuda, and rainbow runner. He also did some bottom fishing and got big pacific snapper and ugly looking JobFish. would recommend BJ to anyone wanting to go sportfishing in Niue. BJ gave us some beautifully presented pieces of yellowfin and mahimahi for us to cook. I would rate MahiMahi the best to eat, so sweet and juicy

BJ and his wife Vanessa took us on a whale watching boat trip we will never forget. Not only did we see whales swimming with their calves, but we slipped quietly into the 200m deep blue water and spent 20 minutes observing a calf glide up and down to feed from its mother. A male whale escort was cruising below us. It was a surreal moment. BJ and Vanessa have a huge amount of local knowledge and respect for their precious environment. We felt humbled by this experience.

Absolutely the best days fishing!
Went out with BJ Rex at Fish Niue and had such an awesome trip! The fish were really biting from the first lure that was dropped in the water. We ended up with 5 huge Wahoo, some Yellowfin Tuna and mahi Mahi, plus a huge Barracuda that took a lure whilst trolling. We have fished with BJ on a number of occasions, and this day was exceptional. We also went out 6 times to swim with the numerous Humpback Whales and swam close to at least 3 different sets of whales on every trip, it was just as good as it gets. Bj and Vanessa his wife have great respect for the whales and ocean and unlike the usual hooning by some operators who have no real care with the mammals, BJ has the local touch and his encounters are the best we have ever done anywhere, and we have done a lot up in Tonga in the past.
I thoroughly recommend that if your going to Niue and want to experience world class fishing and the opportunity to swim with the magnificent whales and new born calves, then I cant recommend BJ enough, they are the best!

We would like to highly recommend "Fish Niue charters" to any visitors to Niue. They were recommended to us by a friend and from the minute we met BJ we could understand why! BJ is regarded as the top fisherman on the rock! - and if you go out with him you will understand why.
Wow what a day!!! We caught a sail fish - all four of us took turns to reel it in ...... the biggest fish any of us have ever caught... it was quite an experience. We also caught 2 mahi-mahi and a a wahoo.
BJ gave us heaps of wahoo and Mahi-Mahi to take back to our accommodation at Aleki's Guesthouse. BJ gave the Sail fish to the family who were hosting the hair cutting ceremony - it was really nice to help give something back to the community.
We all agreed that it was not just a fishing trip it was also a whale watching trip too - we saw so many whales which was also amazing! Great value for money and we will be talking about our fishing trip with BJ for many many years.
Thank you BJ for the most amazing fishing trip it was certainly the highlight of our trip to Niue! We look forward to going out fishing again with you when we return! Samantha, Duncan, Mark and Jenny

Before leaving NZ, I emailed a few charter places to find out more about fishing for while we were in Niue. BJ got back to us quickly and was super helpful with a great price. We contacted him when we got over to Niue, with the help of the Scenic Matavai and organised a trip. It was an early start but an awesome trip, BJ is very professional and helpful. My partner loves fishing but im a real novice, I was made to feel included and supported to have a go and we caught heaps of yellow finned tuna and a real decent sized wahoo plus a smaller one. BJ then gave us some to get the resort to cook up for us, as his restaurant wasnt open. This trip out with BJ will always be a great highlight of our trip to Niue. Thanks BJ

For us our time in Niue was an adventure everyday, particularly our days out with BJ. We had 2 fantastic days out fishing. Once in the large boat with 6 fishing and once in the smaller boat with 3 fishing. We had excellent gear, a knowledgeable skipper and a very friendly deckhand. All of this leading to fun and successful days, catching Yellow fin and Skippies. The fishing days were topped off with amazing fish platters from our catch at the Falala Fa Restaurant and Bar.
Another day we did a snorkeling trip that really had the WOW factor. Swimming with dolphin and snorkeling outside the reef. At all times we felt save and well cared for. A bonus on all trips was the great views of the Island.
THANK YOU BJ and your crew. Memories that will last a life time.

Our Niue hosts had booked us in for our trip with BJ before our arrival as swimming with the whales was on top of our list of things to do in Niue. We only had one day available for this, but Mother Nature smiled upon us - we saw 3 whales and several spinner dolphins on our first and only trip out.
Seeing a 12m humpback whale loom up out of the deep blue really was an experience of a life time, and being drawn through the water right behind a pod of spinner dolphins riding the bow wave was one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had.
BJ was pleasant and funny and brought yummy snacks and water. In-water whale conservation guide Peter made us feel secure. The enthusiasm of these two guys and the rest of our group was just fab. The whole set up felt professional and well thought through. Apart from getting a bit seasick I had THE BEST experience. Very highly recommended. If you are prone to seasickness, take some pills to get the most out of this amazing time on and in the water.

3 of us on the boat with BJ the skipper caught 5 Wahoo between us and BJ was really patient with giving instructionA great experience and would recommend BJ as your skipper.
