It is a small but, beautiful island where Captain James Cook decided to land in 1774. There is a sign to mark the spot and you can walk down to see the beach where is was supposed to have actually touched land. Very historical here.

Some history here. A small climb down to the water. Possible snorkeling spot for competent ocean swimmers in calm conditions

Uplifting feeling of once was a place the well known Captain James Cook landed in 1774 with the elite navy of her majesty of England the Queen Elizabeth. A history oriented person will automatically feel the presence of the event long past when the great navigator once was on at this very place confronting the elite warriors of Niue. Best of the best warriors of that time in the Pacific are a legend remembered by Niue people and all Pacific islands. Navy soldiers of England was no match for the fierce Niue warriors after a fierce challenge with the guns and cannon firepower of England. It didn't impress them at all. The captain was moved and was admired by their bravery. He honor their courage as a fair challenge during the negotiation ended up in a draw that the warriors won and a friendly diplomacy established. A metaphorical name Savage Island was given to honor and protect Niue from foreign invasion. A special envoy from England later visit Niue to meet the king to sign a treaty of ally country and under protection of her majesty the queen. The place has massive rocks brought in by legendary Maui to block the entrance to the land. Fishermen with their canoes go fishing at this place. A good place to take photos of people dress up as Niue warriors. It mainly a place where England and Niue made a historical connection. To this day that special connection still remains.

Love this spot for snorkelling at high tide.
Heaps of fish, reef sharks, sea snakes and saw a lone turtle here as well.
Pretty safe just keep an eye on the tides - best on a calm day.
Bonus - close to town with Vaiolama, Crazy Uga and Falala fa a couple of mins walk down the road.

Back in 1774 Captain James Cook attempted to make landfall here ... his boatmen were repelled by local warriors and Niue was named "Savage Island" ... walk down the short track and picture the scene ... it is possible to swim here but you are straight into the deep waters of the ocean ... a favourite sea track with local vaka fishermen ... great sunset photos

Worth a stop, park up top off the main road and walk down the path to the water. Bring your reef shoes, like most places in Niue. OK snorkeling spot. Signboard at top giving a little bit of info about the history of this place.

Paradise.This is just gorgeous, beautiful little spot. Must see and do. Beautiful waters and not bad accessibility

I agree with the others that this spot is worth a stop. This is where the Niueans sent Captain Cook and his trinkets packing with spears and painted faces. The trail down can be slippery but the stairs are great. And there is a fresh water shower when you get out of the ocean from snorkelling. We were there on a day of large swell and were not able to get into the water but saw the parrot fish and other sea life from the rocks. The multitude of fishing vaka suggest it is a good spot for fishing as well.

Ходили на этот пляж для разнообразия,плавали с инструктором под водой с маской. Необыкновенные ощущения!

easy access, deeper water for snorkling and seeing bigger fish. it is fairly easy access into the water. we stayed after the change of the tide and had to be a little careful getting out of the water as the waves pushed you a little but did help as well.
