Some christian tourists on Niue often want to visit church on a Sunday. Ekalesia church is a London Missionary Society origin therefore have a connection to tourists coming to Niue. The church pastor and congregation welcomes any tourist to attend. It is very relaxing and friendly people.

When in Nuie one thing I wanted to do was to experience a church service. We chose the Ekalesia Church, for no particular reason: perhaps we were simply meant to go there. The pride taken in this building and its congregation was clear to see. And to hear those male voices soar so high was remarkable. An absolutely uplifting and invigorating service.

We went to a Sunday service with friends and, although that is not normally my thing, I'm glad I went. The singing was beautiful and, to me, made it all worthwhile. I couldn't understand the prayers or the sermon (in Niuean of course) but the music transcended that. There was no need for language or ritual to understand the message of peace, love and support. We were seen as a bit of a novelty ( we were only blow-ins) but the people were friendly and welcoming.

Definitely worth a visit on Sunday. The service was about an hour. The singing was mostly in Niuean as was the sermon but some was in English. A real taste of Island life and culture.

A warm and welcoming church where everybody is dressed in their best with smiles to match. Easy access as it is in the town centre and sited above the harbour. Beautiful memorial adjacent to the front doors - dedicated to Niueans who fought for their country and the commonwealth.

If you visit this island you should put this church on your list. Try to visit on a Sunday so you can meet the locals and experience the real island life as if should be. It is small so you should go early.

A worthwhile experience with great singing from young and old. Made feel welcome. Service is a variety of Niuean and English. Good to see young people involved with modern songs and guitar accompaniment. Lots of similar services around the island but can recommend Alofi.

If you like to see life of locals, visit a church on Sunday. If you don't understand the language, you can feel the spirit.
