This was a trip originally organised and planned for 2020. That didn’t happen due to the obvious!! Australia didn’t let us travel again until November 2021. Emmanuel from Okapi Tours kept in constant contact with me and fixed everything!! He had to change our Gorilla and Chimpanzee trekking permits about 4 times!! We eventually got to go on our 2020 tour in 2022 thanks to Emmanuel’s determination! Thank you soo much for a wonderful trip! It was certainly worth waiting for . It surpassed my expectations!!

Wir waren bereits dreimal mit Emmanuel in der DR Kongo unterwegs. Einmal im Virunga Nationalpark und zum Gorillatrekking, das naechste Mal durchquerten wir die DR Kongo von Ost (Goma) nach West (Kinshasa) mit dem Auto und von Kisangani nach Kinshasa auf dem Kongo mit einem Schubboot. Gefolgt von einem Trip in die Region Katanga. Bei allen Reisen wurden unsere Wünsche erfüllt.

I just returned home from an amazing 3 week trip through Uganda organised for us by Emmanuel from Okapi tours!
It was absolutely fantastic!
I can’t even describe how wonderful Uganda is and great of a guide/fixer Emmanuel is! He sorted everything for us, down to the things we saw, the places we stayed, and the routes we took and gave us plenty of options in regards to accomodation and activity planning along the way and beforehand. He knew exactly where to find clean and safe toilets, atms, restaurants and shops.
We swam in 2 volcanic lakes, we saw Murchison falls by foot and by boat, and had multiple day safari trips in multiple national parks.
He organised for us to see both chimpanzees AND gorillas, as well as lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, giraffes and sooooo many hippos!
We saw every animal I could think of, and a few others I couldn’t, and it was all thanks to Emmanuel!
Even along the way he was so incredibly helpful, helping my find a replacement battery for my obscure camera, helping us at pharmacies and stores when weren’t understood, and even helping me find cigarettes (which was surprisingly difficult in Uganda)!
I’m already planning my next trip with Okapi!
🤞we will be travelling to DRCongo at the end of the year, and have left the fixing and planning to Emmanuel, as we know we will be in great hands!
Honestly can’t say enough about how great this was, and how grateful I am to Okapi for making it happen!

I have done 2 trips to the Kivu’s with Okapi Tours and Travel company, run by Emmanual Munganga.
We climbed the Nyiragongo volcano and saw the Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga National Park and also climbed Mount Kahuzi and saw the lowland Gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park.
Emmanual is a first class host and tour guide, he’s extremely well connected around the region, including Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda and I will definitely use his services again. His pricing is also very fair in what is a very expensive environment given the cost of vehicles and permits etc.
Thanks Emmanual - hope to see you again soon!

Virunga is a true gem - an expansive piece of wilderness that's home to half of all the species on the African continent. The gorilla trekking experience and Mikeno Lodge are great, but for me, the crown jewel is trek to the summit of Nyiragongo. There's nothing else on Earth quite like starting into its churning lava lake as darkness encroaches. I’ve been multiple times to the park – all guided by Emmanuel Munganga of Okapi tours and Travels (okapitoursandtravelcompany@gmail.com; +243825283282 on What’sApp). Emmanuel is reliable, trustworthy, fluent in English and French, and a highly gifted storyteller with an intimate knowledge of the entire African Great Lakes region. In a place like the eastern DRC, it’s always a good idea to travel with a trusted local; and after years of traveling around Africa I haven’t come across a better guide than him. He also arranges trips - for tourists as well as journalists - across Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.

My trip to DR Congo could not have been any better. I really enjoyed my time taking this trip with Emmanuel of Okapi Tours. I found out about him through another member here on TripAdvisor.
In DR Congo, there are not that many tour operators. The tours to DR Congo are generally pricy because there remains a lack of tourist infrastructure, and that is only IF you find a tour operator.
However, after contacting Okapi Tours, I was placed at ease by Emmanuel. He speaks very good English, and the price for the trip that he proposed through the Western part of DR Congo was very competitive. Most importantly, Emmanuel was a good communicator via WhatsApp, e-mail and the phone. He laid out of a detailed itinerary, with sites to be seen and accommodations. Furthermore, he provided an invitation letter, which is essential to receive a visa to go to DR Congo (with his invitation letter, I received a visa from the DR Congo Embassy (USA) in a matter of days). Other tour operators would charge a lot for this invitation letter.
Emmanuel of Okapi Tours is pretty well known among the small group of tour operators for the DR Congo. Many people rave about him in Lonely Planet, and I can see why.
Upon arrival in Kinshasa, I received by one of his contacts upon disembarking the aircraft. I heard horror stories about bribes, etc. I experienced none of that.
His contact met me upon landing and accompanied me through all the arrival formalities. I met Emmanuel upon exiting the airport and went straight to the hotel for a night’s rest before embarking on a week-long trip through Matadi, Boma and Muanda, spending half a day in the Mangroves National Park. It was a tour of the western part of the country.
I felt at ease during the trip. Emmanuel was always there to resolve any issues, and he was open to any suggestions for a better trip. I could not have asked for a better guide.
DR Congo has a bad reputation. However, it is a beautiful country with beautiful people. I spent time in the western part of the country. The northern part has Garamba National Park, which is perhaps the last undisturbed national park in Africa with traditional safari tours. The southern part has two national parks, Upemba National Park and Kundelungu National Park. The eastern part has Virunga and several others. The central part has the huge Salonga National Park. Emmanuel conducts tours in all part of DR Congo.
Overall, I recommend him as a tour operator 100%. I cannot wait for my next trip to Garamba National Park. He leads safe tours in a tough country to travel, at a very competitive price.
