Breaking the journey to South Wales we chose to visit the museum. I was worried that my wife who does not cycle would find it interesting. I needn't of worried the museum starts with the earliest bikes and moves through the ages to carbon fibre. Interspersed are various displays i.e. a camping holiday on bikes. Some bikes stir memories such as the Hercules bike of my childhood. The gentleman and lady of the museum were very knowledgeable and we passed a large part of out time chatting.
Would recommend a visit,

This is a gem of a specialist museum - a must for every cycle rider, of which there are many. And why aren't the cycle enthusiasts giving this museum their support by volunteering.? There can't be many people who haven't at some time ridden a bicycle and this is so filled with the nostalgia as well as the future of cycling.
I don't know how many cycles are in the museum, but there is one for everyone to relate to. Please go to see Frieda and her volunteering help and also the jumble sale in July

IMPORTANT... Check the opening times, before you visit!
We spent Wednesday in the town and found the museum only opens two days in the week and weekends... Wednesday not being one of them. Just bad luck on our part, but it was not the reason we visited the town itself.
The museum is in part of a wonderful building old, sadly most of the building is now empty, the rest a job centre. Because it was closed, we visited the nearby County Museum, which was great.

Visited here after checking out of our hotel, just for a quick thing to do before setting off on our journey home. Enjoyed looking at the evolution of bikes throughout the years, they have a good selection and it’s very interesting to see all the different designs they tried.

What a lovely little museum, much bigger than I imagined but very very interesting and glad we stopped by for a look on our journey home from Beaulah
Everyone involved with it, all volunteers, I feel are very passionate about it,from the guides who take you around to whoever polishes and does all the dusting.
Allan (who happens to be my Dad) gave us a very imformative tour and is very knowledgeable of all that is on display and I'm very proud of him for being involved with it.

I was impressed that a topic that didn’t particularly interest me drew me in! Excellent lady with a real passion and knowledge was most welcoming! And I have to mention how clean it is! Exhibits must be dusted very regularly and genuinely cared for- highly recommended!

Thank you very much for a glowing review . We try to make the displays as interesting as possible for our visitors, as a bicycle museum may not sound an interesting place to visit
Very pleased that you enjoyed the experience

Amazing and fascinating collection of bicycles of every age, shape, style and purpose, from a large number of different manufacturers. A significant presentation of cycling history as well as social history. Well worth a visit.

not a question ,, but it gives me the impression doreen that you dont have a partcular interest in cycling, myself i do have an interest albeit a long time ago now, i visited some years ago and enjoyed my visit seeing all the old style bikes from my era (and beyond) the fifties,, i knew the original family a man wife and daughter who had a shop so small in liverpool,, the shop closed and they moved to either frodsham or helsby cant remember which and then to llangollen north wales, there they opened a museum and tea room,, sadly mr dickinson died and mrs dickinson as i understand let a man from birmngham have all the cycle stock, it since moved to its present location in llandindod wells,, sorry you didnt enjoy your visit but as i say if youre not into the cycling bug then i can see how you werent satisfied with take care

hi mary,, firstly i must point out my memory bank is ancient these days and digging some things takes a lot of work ha ha, however the chap you mention a mr higman from oswestry ? i cant recall his name but the word oswestry does ring a bell,, im sure it was someone from oswestry that approached mrs dickinson regarding their collection. on my visit which i thoroughly enjoyed i asked a man who showed me round if he was interested in something i had,, it was a chater lea alloy hub dated back somewhere around 1945,, all that i had left of my bike an ernie clements front wheel got damaged in a crash had a new wheel fitted and some kind soul stole my bike,, still all history as they say now i wish you all the best of success in the museum and hope you grow and prosper

You cant hire cycles to ride from the museum , but they can be loaned out for display purposes . Cycles to hire can be found at the Elan Valley visitor centre , near Rhayader, about 20 miles from the museum

I'm not sure why the museum was only given one star when your write up sounds like you enjoyed the visit

No idea what other people expect from attractions.Maybe because it was full of old bikes and bicycle memorabilia and not all virtual reality they fail to understand it
