North lake is usually peak around the beginning of October. This year the peak time delays for more than 2 weeks. So the color is so so.

We stayed here on Memorial Day (Monday-Tuesday) after spending a few nights in Buttermilk Country. The campgrounds in the area were full during the weekend, but we were the only people at North Lake Campground on Monday night.
We chose one of the walk in sites and enjoyed the shade. There are hiking trails out to Lamarck Lakes and Piute Pass from the campsite. Though we encountered lots of snow on higher hikes over the weekend (particularly Bishop's Pass), there was no snow at the campground and the weather was pleasant.
Compared to the camgrounds at Lake Sabrina and South Lake that we drove by, North Lake Campground seemed to offer more seclusion and a more immersive nature experience.

We have set up a base camp of sorts all around the area and this is one of our favorites. It is well maintained, the bathrooms are clean, access to fishing, hiking, and exploring are excellent, and town isn't too far away.

Beautiful campground in the winter, as the entire area was covered in snow! We had the entire hike from the parking lot to the campground to ourselves. (road closed)
Had some pretty spectacular views , by which you would not get in summer if you had to drive all the way up.

If you like High Altitude Camping and/ or are looking for a place to stay to acclimate for a high elevation hike, this is a wonderfully lush, somewhat intimate campground. Not very many sites, so even when 'full' it does not seem crowded and is not noisy.
Beautiful Scenery, great fishing at North Lake and the inlet and outlet creeks. Also a pack station nearby, however not right next to the campground so you have the access without the odor associated with a corral. :-)
Be prepared for lots of Mosquitoes late into the season........

North Lake Campground is a special place to camp at the end of the road in the Eastern Sierra. You take a one lane dirt road and find this gem right above North Lake. A creek runs through it with wild trout and there are trails that take you into the back country. Camp sites are well laid out and come with fire ring and table...parking spot and restrooms nearby. A very pleasant, out of the way place to spend a week or two exploring all that Bishop Creek Canyon has to offer at the upper end.

Hello! North Lake Campground is one of our quieter, secluded campgrounds that is not as busy as others in the area. We can't promise that it won't be full, but typically, you will find an available site.
