Fantastic beautiful abbey
sept. 2021
An absolute gem, I took my daughter as she is home ed and it was a special event for heritage week, Met by a group of wonderfully enthusiastic volunteers and we joined the belfry tour. All our questions were answered and it was a very interesting experience. We then just had enough time to explore the church and read the short stories doted around before the tour of the graveyard. Again our guide was brilliant despite it being her first tour. For a place that is only an eighth of what it used to be we were there just over 2 hours and never a dull moment.

Great place to visit
juil. 2021
We visited as a family on a Sunday having found out the abbey is open for services. We contacted the vicar via the abbey website to check we didn’t need to book due to covid since we planned a holiday in Lincolnshire around this visit due to family connections and were welcomed.. The abbey is very interesting both inside and in the ruins.

Middle Ages Abbey
oct. 2020
This Abbey is still in use for church services. The architecture is quite amazing. It is a former Benedictine Abbey and now a Grade 1 listed building and built I. The Middle Ages. It has some beautiful arches and stone carvings. An impressive crossing and a ruined nave. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Guided visits are available but you need to book because of COVID in 2020.

Thank you for your kind review. The North Aisle (now the parish church) is only open for visitors on Wednesday afternoon although the churchyard and ruins are open every day. We really hope to get back to normal soon when we are open every day but it is dependant on the COVID_19 situation.

Abbey church is only open Wednesdays and Sundays.
août 2020 • En solo
Atmospheric place - it’s incredible how the arch over what used to be the chancel is still standing as it looks very delicate.

Pity that the church was shut on a Saturday- but I think we can blame COVID-19 for that :(

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Yes under normal circumstances we are open every day but we are now only open Sunday morning for services and Wednesday afternoon for private prayer and visitors. Hopefully, we will soon be able to open a bit more. Do return when things are more normal as we would love to give you a full guided tour.

Crowland Abbey is a must visit
mars 2020 • En couple
My wife and I were treated to two lovely history tours of the abbey by three kind docents. It is a must visit for history great and small. You won’t be disappointed!

What a treat!
févr. 2020
After a gap of many years I made a special Saturday morning visit. What a treat, the abbey church was bright and welcoming, with a new visitor centre inside to explain the thirteen centuries of history of the site. The welcome was warm and friendly and soon extended to a trip up the tower - very special. My thanks to Lynne and Arthur for their welcome.

Quick walk round on a Sunday
juil. 2019 • En couple
We came into Crowland on Sunday while we were waiting for the pub to open. Had a quick wander round the old abbey - the church sounded like it had a service in place inside so we didn’t go in. Grounds are well maintained and we found the remains of the abbey interesting. Would love to return on a slightly better weather day to have a proper look round and inside the church.

Hidden gem
juil. 2019 • En couple
A delightful abbey, free to walk around. You can only begin to imagine the grandeur of the building in days gone by. Well worth a walk around. We went on a Sunday and there was a service going on inside so we didn’t disturb the service in the part still in use.
Walking around the ruined area you can see the remnants of huge stone arches, windows and columns. Atmospheric and interesting. I’d love a tour another time.

Idyll in the Lincolnshire fens
juin 2019 • En couple
Whilst sitting in stationary traffic on the A47 heading East we decided to give up and drop into Crowland , glad we did . Crowland is an interesting small town with plenth of parking and well worth a visit, the Abbey itself was quiet and thoroughly enthralling with useful , free to use guides , as well as a display showing the history of the site. We also did the 12 points of interest walk around the town.

Don't Go Through Crowland Without Stopping
juin 2019 • En couple
This place was recommended by a pub staff member. The docent was very informative and they have handouts and a small visitor's center. Go on Youtube and you can hear the Crowland Abbey Bells. Interesting history and take a walk through the cemetary too.
