Very disappointing, the fort is tiny and uninteresting. Not sure if it is worth the drive, not much to see, except flies everywhere.

We felt really lucky getting to see this site and having a free tour once we arrived. The walking path is well maintained and there are some shaded areas with benches. There is signage in English and Arabic around the walking path and our guide provided lots of interesting details of the area, history of Pearl diving and could answer every question. It was a very interesting piece of history and they are constantly working on preservation, excavation and some restoration. When we went we got to see the city wall, some watchtowers and part of a huge rebuilt house that belonged to a Pearl Merchant. Our guide shared that only about 10% of the site has been excavated so we could see this becoming even more exciting to see in a few years.
The Al Zubarah geological site is near the Al Zubarah fort and is only accessible by their bus because it is a UNESCO world heritage site and is well protected. The bus was free and there was no entrance fee when we went. The bus departs once every hour and the tour takes about 45 minutes which we felt was the perfect amount of time.
The nearby Al Zubarah Fort has a parking lot, a cafe and bathrooms. The Al Zubarah Fort was cool to see as well but priority should be put on the archeological site because the timing could be tricky.
The fort is a little over an hour outside of Doha and it is best to visit this area during the winter months. It would be best to go with someone who has a car to get out here. There is a heritage village and a desert art installation nearby but the geological site was the highlight of the area.

I did this I interesting tour as part of my visit to Zubarah Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Qatar.
From the Fort, a small minibus takes you a kilometer or two off the road to visit the site and the local guide fills you in. There is no cost to this optional extra.
Excavations are ongoing but presently, you stop at two sites, the foundations of a grand house destroyed by Omani raiders a couple pf centuries back, and the ruins of a fort.
If you are visiting Zubarah, this short extra is worth your time.

We took a nearly 200 mile day trip to this country’s north region that included this site. The focus is the reconditioned fort, built in 1938 to protect its precious well, that contains the 2013 UNESCO Visitor Center and museum. Three rooms have detailed explanations with photos of the gridded town that was settled by pearl divers in the 1700’s. Over time it became a trading center with neighboring countries, then with settlers from Bahrain and Persia, grew to over 6000 people and became “one of the most extensive and best preserved examples of an 18th–19th settlement in the region”.
Our admission was included with the receipt from the National Museum.

This archeological site is 5 minutes from the fort. If you’re a historical fact finder you’ll enjoy walking the trail and reading about the sites history.
There are no facilities here so you may want to stop at the fort first, especially if you have young children.
It’s not sign posted and can easily be driven by.

There is not much left of the ruin but it is huge. Some remaining walls and other structures. Really not that old in the grand scheme of things.

Worth a visit if they allow you on the site. It closes if the water level is high, which seemed to be frequent during our visit

This site is wonderfully preserved and tells the story of Qatar's early pearl industry beautifully. I never would have known without this visit. Thank you.

Very interesting exploration of history. Some of the archeological site has been refreshed or partially rebuilt to provide a perspective of what the structures were like. There is a parking area and marked walking trails. If you walk toward the beach, you will find it very trashy. It did appear there may have been an effort to clean the trash and debris, by the site of several dumpsters in the area.
