I traveled 2 hours to get there with a group of 20 seniors. I had been to their other museum is Orange NJ, much more interesting. This place was a disappointment. We were inside a very small building with 5 stools to sit while have tour guide talked for at least an hour in a packed small area. We were all seniors, and it was difficult for most of us to stand this long. After this part of tour, we were taken into equally small space for a look at some of his inventions. It had bench for a few to sit. I would not recommend this place for older adults. A small group of young children on a school trip might be interested.

This is a small museum, and can only be seen escorted by a tour guide. Ours was led by Darlene, who was informative and knew answers to all the questions! There are two rooms, the first is information and history, the second displays an assortment of inventions. The highlight being an opportunity to listen to an original phonograph. With several origins of the phrase "put a sock in it" this one, to mute the volume of the phonograph, it a fun one. The tour takes about an hour, but you can spend some additional time walking the grounds for a bit more history.
If you can, combine this with a visit to the T.E. National Historic Park, run by the US Park Service. It's about 20 -30 min. away. The two compliment each other with history and an extended look at Thomas Edison, his inventions and his personal life.

My Brother in Law is named after Thomas Edison and Father in Law runs an electrical wholesale business so when on a trip to New York we couldn’t not take a half day trip out to this place.
Although small, just two rooms (one for Edison’s life story and one showcasing his inventions) the tour lasted an hour but was constantly engaging and entertaining. Two guides did the tour, a room each and both were great. We got to handle a few of the objects and also had access to the memorial outside with its everlasting lightbulb.
Even if we didn’t have the connection to Edison i would have enjoyed this museum it was also a nice break from the manic hustle and bustle of New York City and see part of the “real” America

Сейчас музей закрыт, поэтому удалось лишь побродить по парку и сделать фотографии. С 24 октября, насколько я понял должен открыться.

I grew up in Edison Township and had visited the museum when I was in the Cub Scouts. I found it fasinating at the time. It made me want to be an inventor when I grew up. When I visited again as an adult in my 50's I was expecting some of the wonder that I experienced as a child to fall short of my expectations. I could not have been more wrong! The museum, its staff and volunteers do an incedible job of highlighting Thomas Alva Edison's many accomplishments. At the end of my tour, I walked away with the same sense of wonder that I felt as a child.

We love history and this was a diversion from an otherwise long drive. This small museum is in a residential area, though not far from the highway. You will likely need to parallel park. There is a large monument as you approach, but the museum building appears quite small. The tour cost is low, downright cheap for the tour you get. The docents are friendly and make the experience fun and educational for all. They are very pleased to help those who may need special accommodations. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Very young children may not appreciate the tour.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park yesterday for the first time. As we drove up, I first noticed the giant art-deco tower with one of Edison's light bulbs at the top of it. This is the site of Thomas Edison's laboratory in Menlo Park where many of his inventions were developed. While the museum biulding is small, the experience of the visit will leave you in awe! Our guide was Chuck who was extremely knowledgeable and personable and did a fantastic job explaining many of Edison's inventions that were developed at this location. He really brought the history to life for all of us on the tour. The museum features a collection of early phonographs and records developed by Edison, and Chuck demonstrated how a few of them worked and we all listened to some of the first recordings played on some of the fiirst phonographs. It was like stepping back in time. It was a very interactive tour and Chuck did an especially good job interacting with the young students that were on the tour. After an hour or so in the museum, we walked over to the Edison Memorial Tower where we were taken inside to see the eternal lightbulb burning since 1938. If you have an interest in the history of technology this is one gem of a museum! They also have a nice museum shop where you can purchase books on Edison, Edison-era style light bulbs, and even some original Edison records you can play on your turntable at home. I highly recommend a visit here. Definitely a five-star experience!

The Edison Tower has been a favorite attraction for 75 years.
I've taken many of my out-of-state friends here.

We were in the area visiting family and decided to check out the Edison Museum and Tower. This was built on the location of the former Edison Laboratory, along the first street which was entirely lit by light bulbs. There were many mechanical inventions from the early 1900s (not likely directly from Edison but representative of the era) including different types of phonographs. There was an on-going tour with the volunteer guide taking you through the displays (2 small rooms), with interesting stories. The tour ended outside at the Edison Tower which housed the eternal light (locked; requires guide to open). The cost was $15 per adult but your NPS pass should work.

Hello, We are so sorry that you did not come into our museum, but we hope you can visit us at another time. We are a small but very amazing museum, our docents are well trained and give fun and informative tours. We play original Edison Phonographs, and our visitors can become a telegraph operator, human batteries, light bulbs with a small generator, and utilize our series and parallel circuit boards. A visit to the 80 year old Edison Memorial Tower, which was just on Jeopardy 2-2018, is always great. Take care.
