Love Bucks Mills, but the walk down the steep from the village is a real mess. Rubbish everywhere at the bottom including glass, plastic, and general rubbish, Old bits of boat and even broken road signs. Storage sheds falling apart.
Someone needs to sort this out as it spoils the beauty of the place. What a pity to see it looking so unloved.

This walk along the South West Coastal path is in very poor condition due to wet and muddy conditions. Wooden steps had collasped and two trees blocked the path.

The tree line was so thick that good views were few and far between.

A walk best left to the dry summer months.

I have been walking the SWCP a small bit at a time and was able to walk from Bucks Mill to Westward Ho! taking advantage of public transport for the day.
The walk down the lane from the bus stop at Bucks Cross to Bucks Mill was a picturesque prelude to the coastal walk. The woodland here is also open for walks. Bucks Mill was in sunshine but after the steep climb up the steps I was treated to an amazing view as I looked down onto the cloud covered sea. The descent in and climb out of Peppercombe was not too bad, then up to Higher Rowden and Westcott Cliff was the only other challenge before a moderate walk into Westward Ho!
The path was not busy that day and I met a small number of walkers with cheery greetings along the way until it became busier from Abbotsham Cliff into Westward Ho!

We visited Bucks Mills on Wednesday as was recommended to us whilst we were staying in the area.
Well what can I say! It’s a absolutely stunning little hamlet! Saw one other couple on the beach! You don’t come here with flip flops on as you need to walk over the rocks (all rocks) to get down to the sand/sea. But do it and you won’t be disappointed! Beautiful waterfall to see as well.
This is a hidden gem and it’s stunning if you find it.

Great trip from Bucks Mill to Clovelly and back. The first part is very steep up a woodland track and needs a level of fitness. However once you have covered .3 of a mile it levels out and whilst there are a couple more climbs they are less steep. You walk through woods for about a mile with good views through to the sea and then a mixture of fields and woods till you have done 2 miles. Then you hit Hobby Drive which is a compressed stone road that takes you to the top of Clovelly high st (after the payment shop!) and is about 2.5 miles. We did the walk there, had a coffee and snack in the pub by the harbour and then walked back with lots of stops for photos and did the 9.6 miles in just under 4 hours. Clovelly is lovely and even nicer when you feel you have saved the entry fee!

There is parking at the top of Buck's Mill village and some interesting info about the place. Then you walk down and join the South West Coast path which is reasonably challenging so not for anyone looking for a flat stroll. It took about two hours to go along the coast with some very nice views towards the end. Peppercombe beach is very stony in places but there is a great sandy area at low tide and we were the only people on it and the dog had a ball. We came back inland on tracks, quiet roads and through some fields and woodland which was less up and down so much quicker taking just over an hour.

The walk down to Peppercombe Beach is as enjoyable as the beach itself. A wonderful spot for a BBQ or picnic.

Like Clovelly it has a very steep walk down to a rocky beach but had some great pools. Boys caught a crab and shrimps so they were happy.
It has a little waterfall cascading onto the beach. Similar to the Clovelly one.

Lovely place, not busy even in August and a pleasant view.
We took our large dog too but to be honest if we went again I’d leave him at home. Was hard on his pads and worried he may injure himself.

A pretty, rocky and pebbly beach at Bucks Mills with some sand at low tide. Lovely rock pools and views across the bay to Lundy Island. An interesting artist’s cottage to look at on the way down. Steep walk down though, which is a bit of a haul back up again.
At the bottom there is a Council sign saying that the waterfall might be polluted. Take note, it definitely is. All the houses at the bottom of the village in the square discharge raw sewage directly over the waterfall into the sea, as there are no sewage works or septic tanks down there. So beware of eating picnics near the spray or standing under the waterfall. If you do swim be careful not to swallow the sea water.
So a lovely place with a little sting in the tail for the unwary.
