Tony was a great host and so generous of his time and knowledge. We loved hearing history from a local perspective. Not too strenuous but a good walk. So awesome to find Uga in the coral formations just off the tracks. We were surprised that you can’t actually buy much fresh fruit or veg in Niue so the coconut and papaw that Tony shared from his plantation with us was a real treat. Highly recommend this to all visitors to Niue.

We had an amazing morning with Tony. First we went in to the bush to look for Uga and learn about them and plants etc that can be eaten. We then went to the plantation and were able to drink freshly gathered coconuts and taste some produce. When my partner asked Tony about a specific type of fruit, he took us to gather some and he also
blessed us with some other veges and fruit. We totally recommend A5 tours with Tony

I loved this tour with Tony and his son Max, their obvious connection to the bush and the land makes it special. Tony is an inspiring and generous person and I was especially lucky to take home Uga and yummy produce from his huge plantation to have a Niuean feast cooked with my new Niuean friend Mele. Tony I think you really do something special and I feel lucky to have been on your trip.

Decided to do this tour on the recommendation of my son who live in New Zealand. My partner and I spent over two and half hours with Tony, trekking into the bush to look for the amazing Uga Crab (trainers reccomended) it is an amazing landscape, and Tony is a fantastic guy who gave us an enormous insight the life of the Niuean people, after searching for crab, in their natural habitat Tony then took us out into his plantation, showing us all sorts of plants, fruits vegetables, there was an array of goodies like watermelon, banana, lemongrass, Taro a kind of yam, spring onions, and the list goes on and at the end of our trip Tony kindly gave us fruits and vegetables in abundance.

A big thank you Tony,
And a must tour if you ever get to Niue a little piece of paradise.

We did a tour with Tony that first involved coconut crab hunting then a visit to his plantation gardens. Tony is a character and really knowledgeable about Niue. We arrived at the village at 9am and met him at his home. If your staying in the town or Matavai Resort allow about 40 minutes to drive there depending on number of potholes you want to avoid. On arrival he took us to a forest track which we followed and he explained about the crabs and he caught a number that were eating baits (opened coconuts) he had tied down. We then went back to our Vehicle and followed him to his plantation where he explained what he was growing, how and harvesting. We had a great time and learnt a lot which we wouldn’t otherwise have found out about. We booked through the Resort but you can do it direct.

We are not the typical "tour" people. We prefer to discover by ourselves. However I can't recommend Tony and his A5 tour enough. Tony himself is just one of those people you can't help but instantly take a liking to. The tour itself was very informative and it definitely gave us an insight into how life used to be and for some still is on Niue. Tony and his family really care about the island way of life and live off the land. He is extremely knowledgeable and loves sharing this with his groups. We ate bananas, wild garlic, coconut and many other things. After that he took us into the bush to go Uga hunting. We were in jandals and it was ok but I would recommend closed shoes as the track is quite uneven. If you are to do just one tour on Niue, this is the one to do.

This tour was so awesome. Trekking through terrain that i had never seen before. It was beautiful!
Tony is so knowledgeable about the land and all the animals. It was so interesting to learn what could be used as food and even medicine!
Seeing the coconut crabs in their habitat was something special as well.

This was an amazing experience for me and my 20 year old son. We started with Tony and his dog through the bush.Tony teaching us about the flora and fauna. Uga habitat, and life cycle and then to see them!!! We tasted many plants from the bush and learned of there uses. Tony then took us to his plantations, where he gave us coconut to drink from and pawpaw to eat.Teaching us about sustainable living, in both his home garden and his plantations. He gave us an Uga to take with us! -delicious.Tony is an inspirational person to be around, his vast knowledge, and his willingness to share is amazing.
THIS TOUR IS NOT TO BE MISSED!

My wife and I booked one of the A5 Tours, run by local Niuean Tony Aholima.
Tony, his really neat young son and faithful dog took us on a neat walk through the forrest, showing us the Uga habitat, and plants of use for traditional food and medicine. Tony's son caught an Uga, which we photographed and released. We also visited a traditional "market garden" and the family garden. The whole tour was really interesting, and Tony gave us some lovely bananas and paw paw to take away. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone interested in the traditional Niuean way of life. One comment I would offer to Tony, and that is that whilst talking to us during the walk, it would be better to stop and talk to us rather than talking while leading the way, as at times we missed what was said. To be fair though I am a little hard of hearing.

Tony's A5 Tours once again hits the mark. This time the whole family (incl 3 children) were welcomed and included throughout Tony's tour of the real Niue. Interesting and informative explanations throughout the tour of the varied trees, plants and animals, as well as getting to sample coconuts, bananas and pawpaw, throughout.
The children loved seeing the Uga (and so did the adults). The bush walk gave an insight into the Uga's natural habitat and was an opportunity to learn more about this amazing island for everyone.
Tony is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to provide an explanation when asked. His passion for keeping Niue a paradise is abundantly clear.
Thanks for the great memories, we'll be back to check on the banana tree!
