Beautiful walk and scenery, great huts and different routes to explore. It didn’t rain but was wet on foot from night before. But still an easy walk for 4 year old and 3 month old in carrier.
Cafe was lovely too, very cosy and caramel cake was amazing. Would definitely return.

We went on the off chance. Having lived locally for a long time and never ventured in we were pleasantly surprised. It is dog friendly and had a variety of lovely walks with activity areas for the children. There were displays of woodland crafts and events going on to keep your interest. I look forward to returning.

My wife and I were taken here to see where our little Granddaughter attends 'Forrest School' so she was very keen to show us all of the places in the wood where they show children all about insects, food and build dens. The wood is very peaceful and with the sunlight passing through the trees, very beautiful too. There is a small entrance fee that is good value for a family, and this goes towards the upkeep of the wood and infrastructure. There are crafts people working there and you cans see what they do and I guess buy what they make.(It was a Sunday when we visited, so they were not there) Whilst there visit the Wilderness cafe where they serve what I would describe as light meals in a friendly atmosphere that is good value for money. I am sure we will be going there again. If you have young children, they might well enjoy the Forest school too, just as our Granddaughter does!

We called in here having spotted it when driving past. We had excellent refreshments in the cafe where we read lots about the project and bought a book written about it. We paid a small entrance fee (£3) to be able to wander around the woods and see all the things going on there. The place was buzzing with different groups of children and older people using it to do Forest School and a range of other activities. They make all sorts of interested things from the timber they harvest in the woods including some fun play areas - well worth a visit.

We stayed in Holly Hut - very peaceful, with a campfire, compost loo and bucket shower (heat the water on the campfire).
Wilderness Wood itself is very interesting. There's lots to explore and lots of events. The underlying ethos make it more than just another 'camp-in-a-sussex-field' place, although you can have a great time just doing that.
Very highly recommended.

The Wilderness Cafe is at the Wilderness Wood site. If you wish to look around the area there is a small fee, but it’s free to visit the cafe and have coffee and a bite to eat.
It is an Ideal place to snack in a magical and enchanting environment. I wish we had explored the park, it’s a shame that we only had time for a drink and a cake.

Went for a family wedding.
Great venue, great food. Lovely farmhouse. Really enjoyed the whole day.
Only issue would really be you need the weather.

We are not local - visited after researching online for an easter weekend family weekend. The information on their site and other third party sites is conflicting, so we didn't know what to expect, or what the price would be. This is my main criticism: All information presented online says 'pay as you feel', or 'free, but donations welcome".... Be clear its not free, donations are EXPECTED, and you WILL be challenged at every opportunity which is unwelcoming, exceptionally awkward and smacks of hypocrisy. We had happily paid £10 to one lady on arrival to take part in the bunny hunt, but with no proper ticketing system of paying, we were challenged two more times later in the day to pay our £10 to access the wood. Each time I was embarrassed, felt like I was being accused of stealing and felt pressured to pay another £10. Its perfectly fair to expect people to pay £10 to enter, but its not fair to embarrass people into making "donations" because of poor and disingenuous communication. Just set a fixed entrance fee and set up a system to take the money. Its fairer, and would save awkward, embarassing requests for money.
This is a family run venture that claims to be "rural sustainability in action", and there is something refreshingly uncommercial about it. There is a strong vibe they struggle to meet their running costs, and in many places this has had to undermine their values - for example, I was shocked that the only option for a juice for children was a single use carton (with plastic straw). A juice in a cup would have been more sustainable, but then they probably couldn't charge £1.90 for a children's drink.
I can imagine it is a wonderful community, and if you are in the community you'll know the rules and expectations of what to pay, you'll know who you need to talk to and where to go. Howver, I am an out-of-towner, a visitor to the community, and therefore I rely on a certain level of professionalism to get by. Too many times I felt I was rudely interrupting a private conversation to get some help, or to pay for sometime. Communication is poor.
Overall the visit was fine in the end. I grew up with woods like this on my doorstep, but have become a bit citi-fied recently so it was lovely to find a place that promoted forest fun to my children and reminded me of the joy of being in a wood. I'm sure we will return sometime in the future, and next time I will know what to expect, what to pay and where to pay, and it will be a more relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Hi there,
We would love to visit this wonderful sounding place but we have a small dog ( well behaved). Are dogs allowed???
Thank you!

Dogs are fine, although I think they like them on a lead, at least around the shop/café/car park area, for obvious reasons.

Why is it after spending £37 on our lunch, when I tried to buy my family extra drinks later I was told the minimum spend on a card payment is £10.....

It's totally free to get in! There's a cafe where you can buy wonderful cakes snacks and drinks but if not buying anything from the cafe there is a box in which you can make a small donation for your visit (amount up to you). Hope this helps! :)
