We had a wonderful experience!

I stayed at this fledgling “agricultural tourism” farm / hotel / rental house just to the north of Arraiján on the other side of the Canal from Panama City in December/January of 2013/14. We rented the house.- (family of 5) What a lovely place and great base for trips around Panama! Barring a traffic jam (timing is crucial), its about 35-40 minutes from the heart of the city; close enough for a commute, yet far enough away to get a feel for a more relaxed pace of Panamanian life. The climate here is also milder than that of low-lying areas of Panama. The decent-size towns of Chorrera and Vista Alegre are also nearby, where one can fulfill almost every need. The rental house has four beds and big couch, a big kitchen, a bathroom with shower, and 3 more rooms. It's great for family or friends: easily ten people could sleep here. There is a lovely patio outside with a bar and tables to entertain (the owner has thought about making this a restaurant). The small swimming pool is nice, as are the hammocks Alessandro has set up around the grounds. The are some nice trails to explore, teeming with native flora and fauna. The family owning this “agroturismo” hotel and rental house are very friendly and helpful, and usually stay at another house on the property. Alessandro speaks Engish, German & Spanish well and can act as your personal guide if you need one. I loved staying here with my family because of the beautiful, tranquil, and convenient location, as well as all of the space we inside and out (there is a small swimming pool and some trails on the grounds). We rented a car and could go to Panama City and the beaches on the Pacific easily, and take some trips farther away and leave most of our luggage at the house. We could cook and entertain friends. For us it was ideal: for some with other needs they may want to consider this: 1) The house has a “rustic” feel (I love this!) 2) No internet access (Alessandro is working to get satellite internet installed), but there are internet cafes in Chorrera 3) No water heater … but the water is actually quite warm anyway … maybe even refreshing 5) no air-conditioning (may surprise you when I say it was not necessary … breeze, fan, high ceilings, cement walls make this work). Again, we stayed in the house, great for a good-sized, close-nit group. Up the hill, there is a hotel with I think 10 rooms that would be good for a single or a couple. Alessandro showed us the hotel, and it seemed to be a nice structure comparatively comfortable like the rental house. I see Alessandro has it listed under "cabin/campground" ... I think that is being too modest ... the house and the hotel are both quite nice ... making this place hard to categorize, but wonderful just the same.…
