A wonderful place to go recharge. We enjoyed the Boat trip and the Host was wonderful, managed to catch and release a tiger fish in the rufiji river, what an awesome experience. The Mboga mboga served during lunch/dinner was the best.
I can't say enough good about Silent River Safaris Lodge. Let's start with the location of the lodge, it sits right on the banks of the Rufiji River which is vast and beautiful and in the evenings the sunset was unbelievable. Its the perfect jumping off spot for safari at the nearby Selous Game Reserve. And because you sit on the river, we were also able to do a boat safari and see tons of hippos, crocs and birds. We did a few early bush walks with the staff and they made it feel safe and adventurous at the same time, perfect combination if you ask me :) Compared to other lodges in the area, it was a great value and far nicer than anything else we saw. The lodge is off the beaten path which makes it feel private and undiscovered but has all of the amenities that you would want for a bush lodge. The most memorable part for me was the staff. They were friendly and attentive and made us feel perfectly looked after. The cook was really good and the food was far better than anything that I expected in the middle of the bush. The rooms were clean and private and the views from the front were magical. Again the river views will blow you away. I read about Selous Game Reserve in a Conde Nast Traveler article that described it as "the real deal--a raw and stark slice of old Africa that's off radar and brimful of wild things." And that is exactly what we found. I've done safari in South Africa as well and this felt more wild and free and we barely saw anyone else all day (in stark comparison to Kreuger where we sat in lines of Jeeps to see animals.) So bottom line, if you want to explore wild Africa before the crowds find it, you want to go to Selous. And if you want to go to Selous, Silent River Safaris should be your jumping off point!…
If you’re want off the beaten path but clean and comfortable, this is the spot for you. I’ve been twice and each time the rooms are clean, the showers have hot water, and no bugs. The bugs pert is a huge relief—the mosquito nets are great but even in the room it’s rare you find one (which is shocking because you’re literally in the middle of the bush on a river). Because of the location you have tons of wildlife roaming the grounds of the lodge which was so fun and exciting. I loved the staff and Trent the owner goes above and beyond to ensure his guests have a great time. He even surprised us with a jamband from the local village which turned into a dance pert around the fire. Safari was incredible—so many animals (and yes I saw lions and hyenas!). We also did boat safari from the lodge since it’s right on the river, and that was awesome. It’s a 3-5 hour drive from Dar, but you can also fly into the safari park which I think would be so cool because of all the animals in the runway. For the price and the location, this is such a good deal—and they have some cabanas with multiple beds for families. Food was delicious, and the view from the lodge is unbelievable. Love this place and feel so much peace every time I go—such an adventure and I will be back!…
